The last couple of days were dedicated to taking it slow. We are trying to ease into our daily lives at home in Germany again – all the while already talking about what the next trip should be. It’s kind of fun brainstorming and thinking of places to go and countries to visit. But we’re not that far yet. I will keep everyone updated as things develop.
For now, we are still in France and taking it very slowly. We are in a house in the middle of nowhere, so we enjoyed long walks, making our own firewood, and lighting fires in the living room for long and cozy evenings. We also might have binge-watched Modern Family a little bit (we’ve seen it, but the kids haven’t. Rewatching it and seeing them see it for the first time is a blast!).
There was also a lot of hot tubbing.
We also took a walk one afternoon to the Cascades de Sillans and got a spectacular view of the waterfalls. There were bunches of signs up, saying please don’t go here with more than 30 people, so I can’t even imagine how busy these places must get in summer. I really don’t want to either. One of the perks of traveling in winter really is the piece and quiet you get with it.
Because we were just being more or less lazy during the week, we made up for it with two-day trips last weekend.
Saturday was a trip to Monaco. Chris loves these tiny countries with only a handful of houses 😉 so it was fun to go there. We really liked exploring downtown and had a lot of fun explaining and talking to the kids about how this little “town” that you can easily walk through, really is its own country. We went down to the ocean, checked out the Casino “Monte Carlo”, walked around the city, and even walked up the mountain to the Prince’s Palace. A very fun-packed day with lots of exploring.
Sunday we took another day trip, this time to Marseille, and had an amazing time all the way up on the mountaintop to visit Note-Dame de la Garde. In the afternoon we explored the “Mucem” – the Museum of Civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean. The kids were super into it and asked lots of questions and learned quite a lot.
Today will be filled with packing, and some last minute shopping before it really becomes time to go home.
Something we all both dread and look forward to at the same time.
But where one round of trips ends, another one is only just beginning.
The boss, the general, and the brains of the operation. Anya is the mom of this crazy group of misfits. When not traveling the world and teaching her kids to be decent human-beings, she likes to bake, sing, be goofy. Aside from all that she does for Five of a Kind, she is also a short term foster mother for infants in need.
She also enjoys unreasonably spicy foods and is searching for a hot sauce that is spicy enough and yet still has some kind of flavor to it.
