When we booked our Airbnb in France, we had no idea it was gonna be high up on a mountain, but we did know it was gonna be in one of the sleepiest little villages.
Kind of like downtime to relax after all that sightseeing and beachgoing. So that is exactly what we have been doing.
The kids have been working on their school and after we are talking long walks in the woods and on the hills surrounding this quaint little place that can’t have more than a handful of houses.
Our days are filled with oven-fresh homemade baguettes, a variety of french cheeses, and amazing Éclairs of all kinds and flavors for dessert.
I could literally live off of that for years, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And that’s kind of what we’ve been doing.
About a 15-minute drive from here we found a cute little bakery that has the best baguettes and Éclairs, so we’ve been going there quite a lot. Gave me a chance to brush off my school french that’s been catching dust stacked away somewhere on a bookshelf in my brain and hasn’t been used for decades. Amazing how it all comes back. I was actually able to place my order and hold a small talk conversation in both the bakery and the local market with fresh and homemade goods of all kinds. I’m kind of proud of that.
I also have to mention the local baker that drives a food truck with baked goods around the village and sells amazing baguettes and Éclairs as well. The kids have been running out in PJs before breakfast whenever he honks his horn and they are very proud to order their own french breakfast food.
Other than the delicious food we are enjoying – as mentioned above – long walks in nature with the occasional trip to old towns, churches, ruins, up mountains with amazing views and cool, fresh, mountain air. It’s been great to just kick back and relax a little before heading to our next adventure and – spoiler – it will be a big one!
Of course, we can’t forget that it’s now also December so time to break out the advent calendars. This year we have a whooping number of 19!
- 6 chocolate-filled calendars
- 2 filled with fine chocolates
- 1 “Mexican Tears” hot sauces
- 1 homemade one for the kids filled with different goodies and games
- 5 story books
- 1 riddle calender
- 2 EXIT calendars.
So it really is time to sit back, relax, light candles, cuddle up on the couch, read to the kids, and eat…. Christmas cookies? Oh, who am I kidding! We’re eating Éclairs!
The boss, the general, and the brains of the operation. Anya is the mom of this crazy group of misfits. When not traveling the world and teaching her kids to be decent human-beings, she likes to bake, sing, be goofy. Aside from all that she does for Five of a Kind, she is also a short term foster mother for infants in need.
She also enjoys unreasonably spicy foods and is searching for a hot sauce that is spicy enough and yet still has some kind of flavor to it.
