Saturday was a travel day again and this time it was a really long one. We left Italy at 7am and didn’t make it to our house ins France till 9pm. Long day for everyone.
However, it looks like it was worth the drive. We are in a tiny little village with only about five houses and surrounded by nature. The one thing we didn’t count on, and here’s to learning while traveling, was how cold it was gonna be.
When I checked the Airbnb houses, all I saw was the house on the map. Just west of our house in Italy, so no way was it gonna be colder, right? It wasn’t up north or anything. What I didn’t check was the altitude!
Turns out we are all the way on top of a mountain. Before we drove up the mountain we stopped close to the beach: 20 degrees Celsius. Not bad. An hour later we’re up the mountain and BAM 3 degrees Celsius. Shiver.
But hey, at least we’ll probably get more into the Christmas-time feeling. It was kind of hard to celebrate a snow holiday while swimming in the ocean. Also, it’ll get warmer again once we are in Spain. But now we know that location on a map is not everything, you also have to check the altitude!
Anyway, once we got here Saturday night, we were let in by the mayor of the village, who owns this house. It sounds all high and mighty, but again, this village has like 10 people. He was really nice, but only spoke French. Thankfully my school Spanish (which is super close to Italian) and French have really come in handy on this trip so I was able to understand him and translate for Chris and we got it all figured out.
All we did after that was unpack the trailer and went to bed. As I said. Loooooooooong day.
Sunday was extremely sunny so we went for a walk to explore where we we are. It’s very quiet and sleepy here. It is a nice little break from all the sightseeing, swimming, and beach time. I think it will be a good time to relax before the next leg of the trip.
So here’s to 2 relaxing weeks!
PS: Can’t forget to mention we went shopping for Baguette, cheese, and Éclairs. I will be perfectly content if we don’t eat anything other than that for the next two weeks. Can you guess what I am going to go shopping for today?
