We made it to Croatia 🙂
In the middle of the pouring rain, we packed our trailer at 5 am and left Germany – destination Croatia. We got here in the early afternoon with the sun shining down on us like it’d be the middle of summer.

Our weekend was quite eventful. We found a tiny little family restaurant way up on a hill surrounded by olive trees with about the best food anyone could ask for. They even offered fresh homemade olive oil with homemade freshly baked bread. Absolutely delicious. We also ordered Šurlice which is a traditional Croatian dish. Since most of us are vegetarian and the menu only listed them served with various kinds of meat, we asked if they would be able to fix us some vegetarian ones, expecting them pretty plain with maybe a dab of olive oil. Instead, they whipped up several batches of them with homegrown fresh vegetables in a light cream sauce. Absolutely amazing. Guess who went back the next day? 😉 They even had a neat little sunroof which they let you go up on to watch the sun go down over the ocean all the while overlooking hundreds of olive trees.
It won’t be the last time we went there.
All the people here are full of hospitality and amazing with children. The owner of our Airbnb baked us some Croatian chocolate cake as a little welcome gift. How cute is that?
The village we are in is very quiet – you can’t even hear cars – there are absolutely no sounds other than birds, the occasional cats meowing – there are a lot of cats here – and people talking now and then.
Sunday we went to one of the many beaches in the area, beaches here aren’t sandy but pebbles instead, which is new for us but definitely something different to explore.

The kids were adventurous enough to jump in the ocean and had a blast splishing and splashing about in the water. In the middle of October. Not something you’d be doing in Germany 🙂
I am more sure than ever now that we made the right decision. Everything here is sunny and full of colors (all the flowers are still in full bloom), and exciting new foods to try. The whole thing has a vacation feeling to it, even though we have to work/do school Monday through Friday.
You surely can’t beat the views out of the “office” and “classroom”.
We all love it.
The boss, the general, and the brains of the operation. Anya is the mom of this crazy group of misfits. When not traveling the world and teaching her kids to be decent human-beings, she likes to bake, sing, be goofy. Aside from all that she does for Five of a Kind, she is also a short term foster mother for infants in need.
She also enjoys unreasonably spicy foods and is searching for a hot sauce that is spicy enough and yet still has some kind of flavor to it.
