Our second week is done (I am sure in 3 or 4 years I will look back laughing at this) and we are still loving it. I can’t stop repeating myself, we should have done this years ago. And we’re not even traveling yet, which I hope will be even more fun.
The kids are adjusting to homeschooling and their new subjects and topics and are having a really good time. In comparison, I can already say that homeschooling is a lot more “hands-on” for the kids. Instead of just sitting there they are doing tons of arts, crafts, and experiments of all kinds in all of the subjects. That seems to keep them motivated and seems to help them remember a lot better.
Another plus: I added household chores (like emptying the dishwasher, doing laundry,…..) to their school schedules. Chores have always been dreaded and all I got for reminding them of their chores was a bunch of rolled eyes, but now, now that it is “official school duties”, somehow they just do it. Stuff just get’s done so they can click it off their schedules and be done with school. Awesome.
Other than that this week has been pretty regular. We are trying to get a lot of doctors’ appointments out of the way so we can travel in peace and don’t have to go back until we are in the country again. Yesterday we had a dentist appointment (it always takes FOREVER there) and decided to go out to dinner after. We found a cute little family-run Italian place with absolutely amazing food.
Yes, it got a little “too late” for a “school night”, but hey, that’s why we are doing this, right? 😉
The boss, the general, and the brains of the operation. Anya is the mom of this crazy group of misfits. When not traveling the world and teaching her kids to be decent human-beings, she likes to bake, sing, be goofy. Aside from all that she does for Five of a Kind, she is also a short term foster mother for infants in need.
She also enjoys unreasonably spicy foods and is searching for a hot sauce that is spicy enough and yet still has some kind of flavor to it.
