The holidays are approaching, and our plans to start traveling next year are getting scarily realistic. The only thing missing is a plan for working, luggage, a car, and a place to go. Otherwise, we are ready!
Hopefully, we can count on Santa to give us a hand preparing. We have had our eye on some hardshell suitcases for a while now. We are going to have one hardshell bag per person for clothing. Everyone would also take their backpacks, except for Mom Adkins. She would have a small hardshell suitcase for camera equipment and electronics that we wouldn’t want to check under a plane.
Since we will be traveling for 6 months each year, the hardshell suitcases make the most sense. Even though we will be driving everywhere we are going in the first year, we don’t want to limit ourselves. It would be pointless to buy bags now that we can easily protect them in the car. Gotta keep the long term in mind while still focusing on the short.
In addition to bags, the big man will be giving the kids new computers (we hope). Mom Adkins already has one, and my old one is still holding on. The kids, however, are going to need something reliable if they’re going to start homeschooling while we are on the road. I didn’t want to get them a cheap computer that would last for a year and then need replacing. They don’t need the newest gaming PC, but they couldn’t use a tablet with a keyboard either. We found one with 16GB RAM, an Intel i7 processor, and an NVIDIA graphics card with 6GB dedicated RAM. That should let them do school work and play games for a couple of years.
Gotta keep the long term in mind while still focusing on the short.
The next item on our list is a new car. Actually, we need a used car that is new for us. We are looking for something with 7 seats and automatic transmission. Price will be a big issue with it, but we also need something that’ll get us there and back again.
